Chapter Philanthropy

Sigma Kappa has five philanthropies spelling out Sigma. We have the Sigma Kappa Foundation, Inherit the Earth, Maine Seacoast Mission, Gerontology, and our biggest philanthropy the Alzheimers Association.

Sigma Kappa Foundation:

Our Vice President of Philanthropic Services, Laura McCafferty is going to put on an Ultra Violet Event this semester raising money for the Sigma Kappa Foundation. The Sigma Kappa Foundation exists to support cutting-edge leadership and educational programming to women, provide scholarship support to combat the rising costs of higher education, and provide research dollars to find a cure for Alzheimer's disease.

Inherit the Earth:

Our chapter strives to not only help the community around but as well as the environment. We have adopted a highway that we regularly clean up.

Gerontology is the scientific study of old age, the process of aging, and the particular problems of old people. As a chapter, we regularly visit a nursing home spending time with the residents. We have developed a bond with these ladies and look forward to seeing their smiling faces multiple times a month.

Maine Seacoast Mission:

Our founding chapter was at Colby College in Maine. In the winter, the islands off of Maine are unable to get the most basic necessities that they need. As a chapter, we fundraise and collect supplies to send to the Maine Seacoast Mission.

Alzheimer’s disease and Research:

Annually we attend Pittsburgh's walk to end Alzheimer's. As a chapter we raised $3,579.58 in 2019, which is the most we have ever raised, and we are continuing to strive to grow that number every year.
